It is now 2015 and working with information online between 2006-2012 with some if any current answers to questions I'm researching. I am wanting to upgrade to win 7 Pro.
Current configuration is using XP Pro SP3.
1. I have a Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe 939 w/X2 4800
2. I have 2 - Nvidia BFG GeForce 7950GT 512MB PCIe (these seem to be possible to salvage to use with Win 7 depends on the MOBO)
3. I have 2 Cosair 2gb PC3200 DDR
4. Okia TC3J-1048 is 450w power supply 24 pin power + 1 P4 with other SATA and peripheral plugs.
5. Ultra Aluminus Mid-T silver.
6. Couple optical drive and a floppy drive(it's the only way I know of updating the bios)
7. It's running at 32bit and this may or may not come into play when updating my video drivers to 64 bit.

I have searched high and low and the best is possibly using old Vista BIOS but would still only be 32bit unless I read incorrectly. It also would require a couple of items disabled in the BIOS that would need address to continue.
I would like to continue to use the video cards as they appear to be useable in a Win7 configuration. So at least 2 PCIe 16 less items needed, possibly. My plan is I would like to stay with the case and upgrade Power Supply.
I'm wanting to run this system in a raid configuration via mirroring 2 separate raids mirroring using Raid 1 or push come to shove Raid10 which would require more than 2 drives each using currently have 4 - 2TB 3.5 7200 WD 20 EARX. The caveat is I want to run one drive as a SATA SSD for the operating systems and not part of the sata raid storage.
At this point it doesn't matter whether it's SATA 3 or 6 GB/S.
I have been looking for a new board but when I try to find info i.e. It has 6 internal sata 6GB/S drive but only x - amount can be used for raid or if you use a particular port you can't use the E-Sata port.
This all started as I was going to upgrade or rebuild a HP EX-470 to 2011. I haven't updated the bios and have a LE-1640 chip that would run it and then thought I'd just rebuild it from scratch. The whole point was maintaining my backups. Which became a nightmare. So I decided I would start on my mid-tower first.
The big point is maintaining pictures, home videos, music and movies. I've been doing more video editing on 15 years of home video tape and digital sourced. Thus the reason I would like to keep the SLI feature, the SSD for faster operating system and video editing. While storing data on the 3.5 HDD.
I'm sorry for this lengthy post but I am really needing some guidance on what appears a lot of outdated material. Or reading a lot of dated info while trying to find what hardware I'm needing in the current hardware.
Any thoughts on a system that would meet these needs as aforementioned would really appreciate it. I have read and read until I'm so lost. I've been working on this for a few months (actually dithering the past few years but I am really trying hard to come to resolutions to this). Most of what I have been reading was posted during 2006-2012. Don't see to many post after that. So obviously this had already been an issue and either resolved with systems that are now obsolete or unavailable unless I want a used one off of eBay. For now I would like to tackle my editing capabilities with Win 7 Pro and editing software using SSD as my hard drive while storing the data on 2 mirroring raid 3.5 HDD on two separate array configurations.
Any thoughts that could help in trying to bring this build in a correct format versus buying then finding out current configuration isn't going to work. I guess if I could start at the motherboard requirements would be s start. Obviously I want some USB Drives, built in audio. It's not or will not be used as home media device. That's what the Window Home Server is for.
Thanks for any input and I think I covered all the bases.
Please, I'm desperate, as any solutions were good back before 2010.

Since I haven't received a response at this point. Maybe I should ask a different way.

First what motherboard whether SATA 3 or 6 GB/S would run Win 7 Pro with SSD as the drive to handle the operating system and other software. While using 4 or 6 3.5 SATA HDD in a raid configuration preferably as 1 for mirroring purpose.
And possibly using my current Nvidia BFG GeForce 7950GT 512MB PCIe for video. Throw in some USB 2 or 3 version with optical drive.
Does anyone have an opinion on a motherboard that would meet at least the SSD/HDD configuration? I would like to still have the SLI ability but push come to shove I'll replace the cards.
I notice someone from last year was looking for a CPU for this board in particular. If anything I'll have spare parts for availability. I would like to keep the case.
But please, at least tell me if I am asking the question wrong or what. I know I should look at the CPU first then the motherboard, etc. But I'm trying to meet a criteria of a ATX motherboard SDD/HDD configuration with SLI thrown in.
