I currently own a 7950 oc 3gb windforce gpu. It's doing fine running games as it is. I can play almost all the tripple A titles at High quality and get a stable 60 frames depending on the game. For example a stable 37- 50 on witcher 3 with everything high and textures on ultra.I'm wondering whether i should justifying buying a new gpu. Is it time to replace my 7950 for a new 8gb hbm card? Would it be worth it. I'm not asking for a super card that can run everything at 4k. I know thats not exactly feasible yet. I'm asking for a card that can run everything on the highest settings at 1080p. I also realize the 7950 is a perfectly fine card as it is.

According to the rumor mill, 390x is going to be released at e3's amd conference and supposibly the fury cards will be released on the 24th i have no idea if it's true i just want another persons opinion if i should just wait for a newer card down the line Or is it worth replacing a 2-3 year old gpu. At least for what i'm trying to do. I'm also thinking about getting a new skylake chip down the road whenver that is. So if anyone has advice on just saving up for that or go for the 390x now worry about it latter etc. and so forth any advice is appreciated.

I've almost always had amd gpu's. No offense to Nvidia, i'll wait until after some reviews are out. Then i'll plunge myself into it. I heard that the 390x was supposedly 8gb of hbm. I also heard their using an earlier version of hbm making limiting it to 4gb stacks. Or 1gb stacks. Where as version 2 is supposed to be 2 gig byte stacks of 4. That said according to

Wccftech no idea how credible this site is they drop on the 21st. Which sounds good i want to wait before i get the card, yet at the same time i don't wanna wait so long it runs out of stock forcing me to wait weeks to get it. Man decisions decisions. Maybe i'm just better off getting a 980 ti. Or maybe i'm...
The Fury HBM cards will be limited to 4GB for the first generation, they are cards meant for 1440p and 4k gaming. If there is a 390x it will be using GDDR5.
A new high end card should provide a really smooth experience in every game, specially if playing on 1080p. It is worth upgrading only if you don't mind spending 300-400$ for that. Maybe even up to 800$ if rumours about the Fury cards are correct.

Just a few days more and you should be able to get your answer. But as it is 390X points a lot being a 290X rebrands. Also instead of HBM the card will use standard GDDR5 module. Only Fury will goiny to get HBM treatment and even that will be limited to 4GB max. Regardless rebrand or not it will be a quite a step up from your 7950.

Wait, young man! 😉
The long, long wait will finally be over about June 16th, until then, as you say, that very venerable HD 7950 is still a very strong card at 1080 res, so you really don't need to rush a decision.
From the info available, the R9 390/390X will essentially be rebrands of the existing R9 290/290X, possibly with 8 Gb of GDDR5 memory.
