I"m trying to replace my gigabyte GTX 770 2 gb with a new Nvidia GTX 970 4gb (best buy exclusive Nvidia build). The computer wont recognize the new card. I tried everything, I have the AS Rcok Extreme 11 Motherboard and Running Windows 7 professional OS on a Raid 0 system (2 x 512). The motherboard has a debug feature which keeps popping up with the same thing every time in put the new card in (error 62, installation of southbridge runtime services). I've tried uninstalling the drivers(it seems they actually have the same ones) I'm always able to put my old card back in and it runs fine, but when I try to put the new card in, nothing, the computer powers up, card lights up, but nothing on the screens at all. I've even returned the card to Best Buy once and it still does the same thing. I"ve tried all the different output slots (display port, HDMI VGA anyone have a clue as to what I may be doing wrong? could this be because I am installing the card on the Raid setup? could it be something as simple as not unplugging ALL of the USB's plugged into the computer (external hard drives, audio card firewire etc) I"m at a loss. this is a nice card and I hate to throw in the towel. I've installed video cards before and never ran into this problem. the only other thing I can think of is maybe the power supply cables are slightly different, I dont have to use the extra 2 pins that go to the GTX 770 because the 970 uses less power

the Bios is def up to date. If i reset my bios to factory defaults I lose my Raid setup and with it goes my OS. I put my old Graphics card (the 770) back in and it all runs fine, new card, nothing

nope. I ended up taking it back to the store. Nvidia said there was a hardware conflict. something to do with Bios. my bios is the latest version. I got an response from ASRock with what they say is a solution. but have not been able to test it out. though I'm seeing more and more people having an issue with this particular card, Is it the same one? the best buy exclusive nvidia build? or EVGA, gigabyte or other 3rd party build? do you have an ASROCK motherboard? here is the reponse I got from them. If it works for you, let me know. I will go back and buy the card and try again

Hello,

· Insert the old video 770 GFX.

· Enter into the UEFi bios. Go to the Advanced\North bridge configuration\ PCIE1 and PCIE2 Link speed set it to Gen2.

· Press F10 save and exit.

· Pull out old 770GFX out, and insert the GTX 970, and give a try.

· We have tested with eVGA GTX 970GFX without no issue.

Na i got the gigabyte gaming one. But my problem is that it worked then took in and switched slot it didnt work and so i changed back and didnt work either, but i think my problem is cpu but i should get to bios anyway so hopefully ill fugire it out:)

I actually ended up taking the card back to the store. admittedly. I did this before I was able to try the ASRock suggestion, but I did check and my UEFI bios setting was already at Gen 2. so unless it was supposed to be Gen 3? I"m not sure, but the minute I nail down what was wrong with my install and find a way to fix it, I will buy this card again and give it another go. I was thinking for a whiel, it might have been the power supply cables, but I just used the same ones as for the 770 (minus the 2 extra the 770 needs), so im sure it wasn't that, tried 3 different pci slots (my Mobo has 7 PCI 3.0 x16) ASRock Extreme 11 ( http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/X79%20Extreme11/ ) I have a sneaking suspicion it may have been those bios settings, anyone else with any more input would be greatly appreciated

Can you backup your RAID array to another 1TB drive using the Windows 7 System Image software? You should be able to restore the image back to the RAID 0 array from the Windows disc once you preload the RAID drivers. Afterwards, maybe a BIOS/UEFI reset. Not sure about the Partition Starting Offset though from going from SSDs to HDD and back again. After some digging, it's almost like a 50/50 or losing your array from a reset. Should be able to just re-enable RAID, create array using same settings, and data should remain intact, though for some they had to rebuild the array. Also, possible conflict w/ the specific 970 you tried?

you bring up some good points here. I did have a suspicion it could be the Raid setup getting in the way, this motherboard has a "Clear CMOS" button on it, which tunred red (prompting to push it) when I put the 970 in. but that's my problem. once I clear the cmos, the Raid is gone and I dont have an operating system. So I may just ditch the Raid Array, get a 1 tb SSD (they are not that expensive anymore), reinstall windows on that drive and take a crack at putting that card in again.

Sounds like a plan, though paying up for a 1TB SSD could get expensive(don't know which one your looking at). Also, I thought there may be some kind of conflict w/ the PLX chip on your particular motherboard being picky with the new 970. It's the chip giving you all those extra PCI-E lanes. Also, you weren't running UEFI only boot by chance were you? Is CSM enabled in your UEFI?

it could be just this build of that specific nvidia 970 available only at best buy and new egg is causing hardware conflict. ( http://www.bestbuy.com/site/nvidia-geforce-gtx-970-4gb-gddr5-pci-express-3-0-graphics-card-silver-black/9855169.p?id=1219441201895 ) it's an nvidia build (not evga or gigabyte, etc). ASRock said they have tested the evga version of the 970 and it should be compatible. I don't think I was running a UEFI only boot, but the screen didn't boot up at all. the card lit up, my cold cathodes came on. fans, etc, but nothing else, I"m glad I have the debug code or I would really have no clue as to what was happening,, with the code at least I know it's one specific thing holding me up. even if I havn't figured out exactly what it is specifically yet. the debug light always stops at the same number, which lead me to believe it was something fundamentally wrong. I did not see a CSM function in my UEFI

the samsung evo 840 1 tb is about 420 on Amazon right now. frankly, I dont really need the raid setup, just need larger space on the main hard drive for more space, the speed of the single drive will be great on a single SSD, I've found running in RAID has a few little quirks, , like this one! :) but my system is pretty blazing fast. thank you for your feedback. rally appreciate it

Just trying to help out :) I asked about the UEFI boot as you have the Windforce 770. I wasn't sure of the off-chance it had UEFI-GOP capability vs Legacy like most cards. Some cards I believe have a switch to select one or the other; this is for Ultra fast boot I think it's called. I somehow keep forgetting your not POSTING w/ new 970, not having trouble getting Windows to boot.

I hope that my answer will help someone because I had literally the same problem. In my case I was having GTX970 EVGA SSC version, brand new fully working, and I changed mobo from Asus p6x58d premiun to asrock extreme 11 on x79. Pc was everything but booting up. No signal on Screen, however on every boot attempt monitor was getting sloght signal to "move" but was instantly blacking out and mobo stucks with error code of "b2" which says sth. like legacy ROM failure etc. nvm the details.

What have I done?
I had to borrow my friend's gpu, that was a veeeeeery old radeon, and thanks to that GPU I was able to flash the latest bios AND! the nost inportant under north bridge configuration set every entry that stands for pciE 16 to gen 3!
Otherwise you will never boot up with new gpu.

However this mobo is as malicious as to have its uefi defaults set to gen 2 and everytime your bios fails with OC or you will press the clear cmos button, you will no longer be able to boot up again b4 repeating the whole procedure..... in this case without flashing bios but still replacing your gpu is involved.... preposterous.

Now im looking for some bios editor to make it have gen3 set as default value and than flash it baxk. Does any1 have an idea what software to use and/or how to do it?

cheers, hope it helped.
