considering my friend has been running his 780 on a cx 500 watt psu for nearly a year now, I'd say you are just fine. ignore anyone else telling you that you need a stronger psu. you would if you were running say a 7990 or 690, or a second 780, but otherwise your psu will work perfectly fine, and would even allow you to overclock. the cs series may be the lower end corsair units, but that doest make them bad in comparison to many other psu manufacturers.

To romeru, did you try running your 8350 at 5ghz with your cx series psu? because it would be more likely the cpu rail was not great on your model, and had a hard time supporting it. otherwise, you just had bad luck with your psu.
I would say get a 750W to be on the safe side and make sure you have the correct PCI-E power connectors for the card.

The CX series by Corsair are made of low quality components, i tried running my R9 290 on that thing and it didn't end well, in terms of performance.
The gtx 780 doesn't draw quite as much as a r9 290 but still you should have a quality PSU, but I need more opinions on this.

Shhh.... Only dreams now, let's never speak of this again. At that time i was running at 4.5ghz. Of course my cpu was drawing a little more, and this guy uses a 3570k.
My system used 530w during load. Or atleast it tried to.

so you are telling me with a single 290 and 8350 you used over 500 watts??? I think your power meter was broken. the 290 alone won't use more than 300 under artificial load, and the cpu wont use more than 160 under artificial load...the rest of the system might account for say 20-30 additional watts, but i see no way you managed to pull 530 watts from the wall with a single gpu

you would have had to have been running prime 95 AND furmark at the same time, and even then the 530 seems roughly 50 watts too high

Keep in mind that those are not the only components in the system.
