Replacing Hard Drives

My hard drive is failing, but it is in the early stages of failing. I bought a new hard drive awhile ago and have yet to install it. I am thinking about making my failing drive into a secondary drive and moving all my files onto my new drive. This thinking is supported by not wanting to pay over 100 dollars for a new operating system and data recovery. Please post your opinions

Why not clone the old drive? Replacing a failed hard disk on your system shouldn't require a new OS.

Yes. I have found a program that does that. i now have to order a new sata power cable. Thank you
