Replacing HDD without losing software paths

I just got myself a new HDD and want to swap it with an older, slower HDD.

I was thinking that if I transfer everything from the old to the new, remove the old, and then rename the new drive letter and name to what the old was, I wouldn't lose the "path" that one of my software uses.

Basically it's a music production plugin which stores its files in that harddrive and accesses them when needed. I wouldn't want to load that plugin and be told "Invalid library path" or something along those lines.

Thank you!

If you are referring to cloning your hard drive, that is possible. Don't just copy the files over, you have to use a special program. I believe EaseUS has a cloning software you can use. I would recommend getting a USB enclosure as well.

Is this the C drive, or a secondary drive? D or something...

I still think you should clone your hard drive if you think it is dying. Then you should pop it in, and your computer would think it's the same, but perform much better. I swapped out a few laptops HHDs when upgrading my PS4 hard drive. Didn't wanna throw 500GB away.

Worked like a charm! Thank you.

I got a drive error in windows 10 though but windows fixed it!

No problem.
