Question Replacing laptop screens that use an adhesive?

Hello.

I'm a computer tech and have replaced countless bracket adhered laptop screens, but have been reluctant to try and replace the newer screens that use an adhesive. I mean it seems straightforward enough to carefully pull the adhesive strip out, or carefully use a heat gun to soften the adhesive, but my concern is causing damage. I'm looking for suggestions for this type of job, and also have a few questions:

1) Is there a possibility of damaging the antenna or web cam wiring, and if so, how do you avoid that?

2) How exactly do you know how to position the new screen? Does the top back panel have screen guides like they use with bracket type screens?

3) The glued in screens seem to leave almost no space between the bezel clips and the edge of the screen. How do you avoid damaging the screen when pressing the bezel back into place?

4) What type of adhesive tape is recommended? How do you adhere the screen to the tape without damaging the screen?

Thank you.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

1) Is there a possibility of damaging the antenna or web cam wiring, and if so, how do you avoid that?
That would depend on the screen's lid you're working with. Most laptops have the antenna's off to the side or the top edge of the bezel for better reception.

2) How exactly do you know how to position the new screen? Does the top back panel have screen guides like they use with bracket type screens?
It should fit into place. You should do a dry run(without the adhesive protective backing taken off). Once you see that it's aligned properly, go full send on the panel, removing the adhesive's protective backing.

3) The glued in screens seem to leave almost no space between the bezel clips and the edge of the screen. How do you avoid damaging the screen when pressing the bezel back into place?
You could use a thick towel atop of the panel to apply even pressure and not have your fingers put undue stress on one ore more areas of the panel.

4) What type of adhesive tape is recommended? How do you adhere the screen to the tape without damaging the screen?
You're not going to be able to purchase the panels without the adhesive backing...in fact the source of your displays should have the LVDS/ribbon cable attached to the panel alongside the adhesive strips.

Thank you for the welcome and excellent suggestions Lutfij.

I'm not clear on your #4 answer. Are you saying that adhesive panels come with the adhesive?

If there is no alignment marks or tabs, I guess I could use electrical tape to temporarily outline opposite corners of the old panel.

Yes, they should. I've never come across panels without the adhesive strips unless the panels didn't need them by design.

Electrical leaves a residue. Look into painters tape from 3M.
