Replacing laptop's internal HDD

I have a Dell Inspiron 3521, recently my laptop stopped working. When I ran ePAC tests it showed that there was something wrong with my hard drive. The model of the hard drive is:- st500lt012-1dg142 (got info from intel rapid storage).

Will installing the same model hard drive solve the problem?

If I am looking to upgrade to a better hard drive what should I look for in a new drive to be compatible with my current laptop?

Any 2.5" SATA drive should be compatible. Even SSD which should be a good time to upgrade to.
