First of all, sorry if I put this post into a wrong category, but I didn't see any "Laptop Upgrades" category or similar.
So.. HP made a 255 G5 laptop in different variants, mine has AMD A6-7310 APU. The APU is not-bad but the integrated GPU sucks. I was looking if it was possible to replace the APU and I found out that it would not be possible at all because the MB would reject the new CPU or I would need to resolder the BGA.. and I don't want to break the laptop.
But I found out that it is possible to replace the whole MB with a new one with a better CPU. Unfortunately, the A6-7310 is the most powerful CPU that you can get in HP 255 G5 laptop.

BUT

HP also made a HP 250 G5 laptop.
Their chassis and connectors are identical. The difference is in CPU used - whereas 255 uses AMD's APUs, 250 uses Intel's CPUs.

So, would it be possible to replace the motherboard?
They look the same, have the same io and same dimensions. Heatsink would fit well, the battery is the same in both laptops. They are mounted in the same places.

Here is MB that I have in my laptop right now:

Here is the new one I'd like to replace the old one with (or a similar one from other HP 250 G5 laptop):

Thanks for any help!

Also..
Why do I want to upgrade?
As I mentioned earlier, the integrated AMD R4 Graphics are really bad. the i7-6500U has Intel HD 520 and I do have experience with it in both laptop and desktop pcs. And the experience is very positive, running nice games and 3d modelling software smoothly. Please don't discuss here if the upgrade is worth it. Thanks.

And I DO have RAM compatible with both MBs.

Again, Thanks!

I'll start by saying that you're courting disaster with this.

That said, you could be correct that the boards are compatible. The only way to minimize the risk that they are not compatible (short of finding a document saying that they are compatible) is to systematically locate and measure out the connectors and bolt holes on each of the boards to ensure that the new one will align. This is extremely labor intensive, and I don't have the time to track down suitable photos and measure them out.

You need to find high resolution images of each, and then establish a scale by seeing how many pixels a component with a known size covers. With that scale for each photo, you can directly measure out all of the connectors and bolt holes for comparison.

As I said, they are both identical. You can buy one and it fits both laptops.

Only if the physical motherboards are absolutely 100% identical.
And then you will run into OS licensing issues.

Why don't you simply sell the current AMD laptop and buy one that will perform as you desire?

Because I had already used it, and If I sold it, it would make about half of the price with intel's i7-6500u. Also, the MB I posted is for a really good price.

No problems with that, I have free windows thanks to being windows insider. I like it.
