I am looking at replacing my nVidia GeForce FX 5200 with a new AGP card.

I don't really want to spend over $150 shipped. I know this is limiting my options, but what is the best value for money card out there?

Any help greatly appreciated.

6600gt would be a boost from the fx but the x800series would be a far better choice if you can push the $$$ a little.

The 6600 is at the bottom of the pack these days....

a 6800xt would be nice

Both are limited by their DDR RAM, and these cards are very RAM hungry, so a GF6800GS would be better with it's GDDR3 RAM, the question is can you find one for the same price as the GTO.

I'd say Either X800GTO or GF6800GS, both will be noticably more competant than the GF6600GT and GF6800XT IMO.

i made that exact upgrade, from an fx5200 to a 6600gt. i would highly recommend it. only thing to consider, is that i made that exact upgrade almost a year ago. it might be better to consider one of the x800's or a 6800 by now. still, even to a 6600gt, the difference is like night and day in gaming, i can attest to that personally.

Is the Saphire Radeon 9800PRO 128MB a better card than the GeForce FX 5200?
Oh my, yes...far better. The 9800 pro is as good as the top of the line FX, never mind the bottom FX. Make sure you get a real 256-bit 9800 pro and not one with a 128-bit memory interface, which is more like a 9500 pro speed wise.

a 7600gt might be the best choice
its in the 200 dollar range but much better
also the 6800gs is around 170 and has better performance thena a plain jane 6800
