I built a computer roughly two years ago and unfortunately the I didn’t do enough research into the RAM category. I’m looking to fully replace the ram in my computer as I’m running into various issues with the quality and speed that my computer is running at, and this fact has often deterred me from using it. I basically would like to know the effects it would have on my computer and what if anything I would lose?

Solution
There are many RAM tests available (almost evert Linux LiveCD packs one). CPU stress tests like Prime95 would test your CPU. You might also have troubles with PSU, or your Windows (if that's what your OS) might be unstable.

I would test all components separately before jumping on any replacements / upgrades.
