Hi guys,

I currently have a 120Gb Samsung 840 SSD and a 2TB standard hard drive

Drive C: Samsung SSD (OS and Apps)
Drive D: HDD (Data)

I want to buy a faster / bigger intel SSD as I keep running out of space on the SSD.

I propose to do the following setup:

Drive C: Intel SSD (OS) (2000 MB/s)
Drive D: Samsung SSD Apps / Swapfile (400MB/s)
Drive E: Data (100MB/s)

As you can see the intel drive has a much higher transfer rate, so would putting the apps on the Samsung be beneficial or is this all pointless?

Another idea I had was to use Intel’s Smart Response Technology and set the Samsung drive up as a cache for the HDD. At least that way I could speed up my data:

Drive C: OS + Apps + Swap file (Intel SSD)
Drive D: Data (Cached by Samsung SSD)

My PC has 32GB of RAM so it's pretty responsive anyway, the only reason I'm upgrading is because 120GB isn't enough for my apps. But still, I'd like to do this the correct way.

Your thoughts would be highly appreciated, I really don't want to let go of a perfectly usable SSD.

My motherboard is a Gigabyte X79 UD3, Intel i7 4930k CPU, 32GB RAM running windows 7. I do a variety of work from video editing to developing algorithmic trading strategies. I play the odd game here or there. My rig is pretty fast however I wouldn't say no to faster video rendering, I render my videos in 4K and it does take a long time.
