I currently own an hp omen 880-020no pc and I would like to upgrade to a new case and a new motherboard. I have an Intel core i7-7700 (not the unlocked K-model) and I will not be upgrading the cpu.

Based on my current understanding, to achieve the best results I should reinstall the OS. However, I would like to keep most of the files from my 256gb (ssd) boot drive. My current solution on how to do this is to move all the files I want to keep to my 1tb HDD. Then after installing all the parts to the new case (with the exception of my hard drive) use the 256gb ssd as boot drive and then reinstall windows, if necessary (which it most likely will be). After the install is complete, I would just insert my HDD into the pc and continue from there with all of my precious files saved.

So, I have 2 questions.
1. Is the plan I proposed a good/viable/working option? What other options would you suggest?
2. Since it is a prebuilt pc and the OS is an OEM version, will I have to buy a new license? Is there any way to avoid buying a new license or is it just something you have to do in this case? The current one is linked to my Microsoft account.
