[SOLVED] Replacing/Upgrading Old Build

It's been a while since I've done a build and been trying to catch up on all the various options.

Approximate Purchase Date: 1 week to 1 month (not strict)
Budget Range: ~$600-$700 Before Rebates; Before Tax
System Usage from Most to Least Important: Plex streaming (4k), watching movies (4k), surfing the internet)
Are you buying a monitor: Yes
Parts to Upgrade: CPU, mobo, RAM, video card
I will be reusing HDs, PSU (Antec Earth Watts EA-500D – 80Plus certified), optical drive, Antec metal case and speakers

Additional Comments: PC on the quieter side preferred (but not if cost jumps up).
And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Current build is Intel i5-750 and while it streams 1080p fine, need to play 4k videos on monitor and transcode 4k via plex in addition to handling ~3 Plex 1080p transcoded streams.

(not set on exact part, but do want 16GB and currently using G.Skill sticks have been reliable for years)

Question – would 32GB be overkill or save that upgrade (if at all) for later?

MB: Haven’t decided on one yet, this is one area I need advice the most. Looking for AMD AM4 X570, USB Type C port and quality/reliable (current Asus MB has been running w/o issues for 9 yrs.) and best value for feature set (flexible on price).
Maybe overkill but looking at something like these:
Asus X570 TUF Gaming Plus (wifi) / ~$180
MSI X570-A Pro AM4 / ~$130 (sale)
Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite / ~$170 (sale)

Question – for MBs equipped with wifi, would current metal tower case act as a shield and make this nonusable?

Video Card: Another question mark here. Depends on how much I need for 4k monitor and transcoding, although the CPU is capable of handling the transcoding.

GeForce GTX 1050Ti

I’d like this build to last a long time as the current one has served me really well. Any recommendations on narrowing down mb and video card options would be great. Thanks.

To answer your questions,

RAM is currently the cheapest its been in several years. I have 16GB, and with video editing, photoshop, and multi-tasking I often see 14GB+ used even outside of gaming. And that's typically 1080p or 1440p video and photo. I often would like to purchase 32GB of RAM.

Motherboards with WiFi have an antenna that would be connected and reside outside the case.

I'd recommend a GTX 1650 Super. It's faster than the RX 580.

Thanks for the feedback, it looks like I may end up with 32GB of RAM and enjoy the benefits from the get go.

That makes total sense about the wifi, I guess I've been stuck just viewing the bare MBs and specs! lol

As far as the video card I saw via passmark as the GeForce 1650 rated lower than the RX 580, but didn't see ratings for the Super version. Looks like there's an upgrade in memory type and CUDA core counts. I was surprised to see the Super I found just became available last week and is cheaper than non-Super variant, unless I'm missing something.

Any idea if one is significantly louder than the other or comparable?

I would say the EVGA should be quieter than the ASUS, but I'm not sure on that. The GTX 1650 Super did just release within the past couple of weeks. Nvidia kinda missed the mark with the GTX 1650 non Super because it cost more than the RX 570 and was slower. The 1650 costs about the same as the non Super and is faster than the RX 580.

Yeah, you are right. The video comparing them really drove the point home and the price is almost the same! Crazy they didn't advertise it. I also liked the Super more than the RX580 or 570 because of power consumption. I ended up buying the Super at microcenter this weekend along with the 3600x on sale. They were sold out of the gskill ram, both 16gb and 32gb so I'm getting that online which sucks cause meant I couldn't build it this weekend... oh well, looking forward to new setup. Thanks.
