Intel CPU shortages are reportedly convincing more laptop vendors to switch to AMD chips, which could help AMD reach 20% market share in the notebook market in Q1 2020.
Qualcomm is replacing Intel LTE modems with 5G modems in the 2020 iphones. That should free up some 14nm capacity. Intel is also ramping up 10nm capacity at Fab42.
Intel's Lakefield chip has a few announced design wins already. Perhaps its performance is adequate for the low end laptop designs. They have bundled it with their LTE modems in the announced design wins, such as this Samsung model. Intel has also commented that they have a chiplet LTE modem that can go into the Foveros 3D stack ... which would be an advantage for these always connected designs.
