There is a big question mark on the necessity of this card. Surely the performance gap between a 6870 and 6950 can be filled by OCing the 6870.

6870=2016 GFLOPS 6950=2253 GFLOPS

i'd take a die-harvested cayman over a die-harvested fermi any day as long as the performance and power-performance efficiency are in line with the 68xx and 69xx cards and not like that 6790.
however, i do suspect that amd might somehow screw up drivers for this card :p
if it's priced under $200, it'll provide some serious horsepower for cheap gaming rigs.
i'd love to see it compete against 6870 and gtx 560 and gtx 560 448 core.

large oversized card, underpowered.

If you have acres of space, and ample power, I guess this will give fps on a budget, at the cost of space/noise/heat/power.

Do you actually believe in what you're saying?

People who can't afford the high MSRP of the 7000 series will.

It's a fact they'll charge more than they are worth, if you compare them against the 6000s, and we still ought to see how good the 7000 are.

In the end, it all comes down to cost/performance ratio.

It's not about necessity, but about cost effectiveness. It's probably gonna be hd6970 with some resources blocked. So it's basically recycling chips that dint't work as 6970 or 6950.

If those are the actual prices of the 7950 and 7970, I will just wait for the GTX 680/6xx to be released and see if those prices get any lower. I wish the 7970 would have a sale price of less than 450 dollars.

It appears that AMD is preparing a new variant of the Radeon 6000-series to compete with Nvidia's GTX 560 graphics card.

Umm, doesn't the Radeon HD 6870 already compete with the GTX 560? This card is made to compete with the GTX 560 Ti since the HD 6950 1GB is 5-10% faster than it and priced accordingly; that's why it's rumored to be sub-$200.

The 6870 is already good enough and right in the middle of performance. Get a board with crossfire and stick 2 of these in for 300, done deal. 6870 - 1120 stream processors, 6950-1400 ish. Not much difference except $$

Any word on whether the 2GB version will use the same PC as the 6950 and 6970? I'd like to know if you can flash it to a 6970. I did that with my 6950 from day 1, not a hitch until now. If you can do that on a 6930, that is unbeatable value, period.

This could really go either way. We have no idea that AMD isn't just going to make the same mistake they made with the 5830, which wasn't a terrible card or anything, but it was to big and power hungry for it's performance output.

I'm honestly afraid of HD 7000 pricing in my country. :/ HD 6930 is something to consider for those of us who are sitting on the fence between HD 6870 and HD 6950.

[citation][nom]lostmyclan[/nom]my old 4830 still rocks... if dont have the mistake of a 5830... this gonna be a powerfull card for little price.[/citation]
And what was the mistake of the 5830? It seemed like a good card to me!
It runs as fast as the 4890 did.

I've got a 4870 and that is about equal to a 5770 and 6770 which I think is plenty of power for most games so I won't be upgrading any time soon. I think it will be capable of playing Diablo 3 so I'm not too concerned.

As soon as the 7000 series will be launched the 6000 series price will go down to maintain balance. So i think anyone can get a 6950 1 gb at almost 200$ and a 6870 at 160$ so budget gamers can go for 6870 or the 6950 not the 6930 . Even if on black friday sell even lower than 200$ at that time

[citation][nom]sixdegree[/nom]I wonder who would want this, when 7000 series is around the corner.[/citation]
Some uninformed people?

[citation][nom]atikkur[/nom]i think too much varian on AMDs line, make too much headache.[/citation]
I think that "too much variety" making "too much headache" just means that "you too lazy" to do your homework. The best values on a specific generation of ANYTHING tend to be available just before the successor is released. This will be a hot item to watch.
