nvidia cards haven't sold for MSRP since the 1000 series, and only now THG is noticing?
I bought a 3070 at MSRP on launch day. After using rewards points, it was actually well below MSRP ($387 shipped). The 2000 series FE cards were always MSRP throughout their life. 3000 series FE cards are MSRP as well, but they are only selling from Best Buy, and you really have to get lucky to land one from them.

Bought my MSi RTX2080 Super gaming X-Trio for £320 just before the imaginary release ( to the public) of the 3080, and i'm glad I did

There is nothing surprising here. Retailers know that the moment they start selling these cards, they will get flipped at 1.5 to 2x the MSRP. So instead of letting scalpers enjoy all the profit, retailers will also join the fun.

When they switch to Unicode mining, card prices will drop even further.
I wrote a personal program for that years ago. It mines Windows for all available fonts, displays all scalable integral point sizes for the selected font up to 1024, allows switching styles and code pages, and lets you create and edit text in a small textbox. I had to fix the app several years ago when one (and only one) of the new fonts from Microsoft supported 0 point size, which caused a crash.

Anyway, ASIC, not ASCII. Unicode mining... that's funny.

"....due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, supply chain issues, and the Chinese New Year’s effect on production. All of those factors will contribute to the RTX 3060’s pricing."

The message that this sends to all profiteers is let's keep the chaos going and throw in another strain of CV-19 to keep the world economy in turmoil.
