My friend has a Nokia 1520 with a 1080p display that lasts almost all day, I think they'll be ok at that res. However, I think they're more likely to put that on the Note 4 than the S series
 
What a waste, there is no need for that high a resolution on a phone display. A better camera and better batter life would be much more useful.
 
marketing gimmick.......unless that smartphone is over 17 inches.....it doesnt make sense to have 4k or 2k on it.......i doubt if u even need 1080 on a 5inch screen..........
 
I'll wait to see it with my own eyes before jumping to "OH MY GODS, YOUR EYES CAN'T EVEN SEE THAT BLAH BLAH BLAH!!!1!!!1"

As long as the OS does font and UI element scaling properly, this should work fine. QHD on a <5" screen seems like it is well into the "diminishing returns" category, but I suppose that I will reserve final judgment for when I actually get to look at one. It really just looks like a parallel to the megapixel marketing wars in the pocket digicam world.

My GSIII with 720p resolution has almost indiscernible pixels as it is, but I can see them if I am really trying hard...which is never a normal use case for me.

Actually there is no reason for anything beyond 720 on a screen that size. I have a Lumia 920 and I can only see the pixels if I strain my eyes to the point where they hurt...

Exactly. They really should be working on putting 1920x1080 (or higher) in their laptops first.
 
I'll be honest here; I think reporting what is coming down the road for sure is awesome and am very grateful for that, but reporting "rumors" - not so much. I know I'm being particularly sensitive right now because I've been reading the Lumia 929 readers for a couple of months now and there is still no word from Nokia or Verizon about it, and I really want that phone *if and when*,but it is something that has always bothered me.

Can we stick to the actual facts on Tomshardware? That's what I read this site for. If we know that Samsung has concrete plans and a roadmap with a projected release date that's one thing, but this stuff that is almost all conjecture based on something someone saw somewhere is on the level of water-cooler gossip.
 



Meanwhile still no affordable 2560x1440 monitors.


Phones are running out of steam so they're throwing everything and the sink into them to try and keep the hype alive.
 
I'm on a 39" Seiki 4K display right now that cost me $449 on Amazon…….TCL has a 50"
one for less than $700 and Seiki also has a 50" in that price range

While I don't think that such screen will add much benefit for a smartphone, the fact that Oculus Rift may use such screens in the future is a reason to be excited.
 
It is simply a marketing gimmik like others have stated. My note 3 has a 1080p screen and it looks identical to my old note 2 720p screen. You would think with the extra space they would have given you another row on the screen for apps or widgets but alas, it is the exact same grid layout.
