Reproduceable Bugs in JVC

Hi,

I've got serious problems with jvc.

The problems are occurring in two games and they seem to have the same
reason.

First Issue:

A complete new game - one planet with Starbase (all tech levels 1).

Unpacked with winplan and viewed with winplan shows no problems.

Viewed with JVC; the tech level on the base for the tubes is 2! Not 1 as it
should be.

When I look afterwards on the data with winplan it also shows tube tech
level 2.

The trn-checker from the host didn't notice the error and I got a Tim
Continuum.

Unpack the RST with JVC (Commandline) and then look at with the vpa-client -
everything is ok. Winplan cannot open the data.

After looking on the data with JVC brings the error - also in Winplan or VPA
afterwards.

So when I open the data with JVC they become wrong.

Second Issue:

A game which I have been playing with JVC since 20 turns without problems.

When I try now to build tubes (in the parts section of the base) for
Superrefit and leave the base I get the internal bug checker message:

Setting DEBUG mode on [build 54]

at jvc.JVC.main(JVC.java:131)

Final mass: Ne: 732 Tr: 1035 Du: 935 Mo: 1430 $S: 39048 Cl: 69150

ERROR! ERROR! ERROR!

Both errors are reproduceable on other computers with build .54 and build
..52!

Thanks

Hi Alex,

Yes, JVC has some known bugs, and annoying ones. You can post your bug
reports to Lars Dam, his email is somewhere on the jvc site. My
experience is that jvc works best if not used with other clients. And
the torp tech 2, well, I got tiered of undo-ing, so now I have torp
tech 2. 🙂

Good luck,
Guido.

Hi Alex,

These are known problems with JVC I think. You can always contact the
maker Lars Dam to send bugreports, his email is on the jvc site.

My experience is that JVC works best without the use of other clients.
If you really want to use others, you can use the PCC client to
correct the checksums so that WinPlan and like will open the files
again.

Good luck,
Guido.

Hi Guido,

I got a answer from Lars where he said that these problems are know bugs and
he'll try to find in July some time to fix some of the bugs.

I'm using meanwhile only JVC (for two or three month now).
The Game (Problem with torp tech level 2) was a complete new game; my first
I directly started with JVC (I only copied the fizz.bin file from another
game). This game I never touched with winplan!
After the first hostrun I got a Tim Continuum. I asked the host to rehost
the game and he fortunatelly agreed. After that I played the turn with
winplan without any problems.
Because I had in another game also problems with the torps I supposed a bug
and reported my experiences.

Thanks

Alex

Now, after that I made some experiments with JVC and winplan and there I saw
that there is a problem with the torp tech level.

I have also hit a few bugs, which he is working on when he has the
time.
I am running 4 games in JVC one is up to turn 71 and I'm in second
spot so I have a few ships and planets. I find the Auto tax and auto
build a great help, also the other addons help me handle moves, plans
and keeping track of enemy ships.

I do know most of the bugs and try to "go around" them and so far have
only had a few bad turns which was picked up by chktrn.

I find this client to be the best for me as I'm always swapping OSs
(OSX, Slackware or Windowz) and I can keep using the one client.
