I am looking for an SSD online and coming across many brands I am unfamiliar with such as Dogfish, Kingshark, Kingdata, etc. Is it worth saving $10-15 with one of these as opposed to a more familiar brand like Kingston or Transcend for example? Thanks.

No. None of the ones you listed are worth spending money one.

Samsung, Crucial, Intel, WD, Sandisk.

Cheap SSDs are a bad idea if you value reliability or any resemblance to speed. Cheap "familiar" brands, in addition, can have some poor drives too. My Kingston A400 died and took all my data before its first birthday. Wasn't abused or anything.

You need to go with a good model from a good brand, preferably with a DRAM cache.
