Hi Gurus,

Apologies to request you this but was a bit unsure of which motherboard would support the below setup - I'm planning to upgrade my PC for typical gaming needs. I am upgrading my PC which I assembled myself 8 yrs back or so (core 2 duo + HD5750 + nvidia 270X SLI) but clearly I'm outdated by over few years. I now am returning to gaming on tighter budget and not sure on the below would work:

1. I prefer Xeon E7-4830 over any 4th gen i7 processor as I'll be going with Radeon RX480 card or equivalent around $200 to address GPU needs.
2. Going with E7, I'm unsure which Mobo would suffice for both DDR3 & DDR4 compatibility. Request your help on this point primarily.
3. Any driver issues suspected if I use E7 & AMD card for gaming?

I did go through lot of threads where most of Xeon processors have worked fine with external cards. In this case, E7 costs almost a third of i7 4K/6K processors and is equal to i7 processor after E7 + RX480 combo.

Overall budget in USD-

1. Xeon E7-4830 - $125

2. Radeon RX480 - @200$

3. Memory 16GB DDR4 RAM - 80$
4. Motherboard - ??? (This is what I'm unsure of or have no clue and hence, this request).

Appreciate and thanks in advance for your inputs and help.. Plz do add if I've missed anything.

Apologies to spam again... Thanks.

For gaming i recommend the intel i5, the i7 for me is a waste of money at least for gaming.

So i5 + rx 480 + 16gb ddr4 + lga1151 motherboard, and you have a nice gaming pc for the next few years

13thmonkey is correct. The Xeon E7-4830 would be terrible for gaming because of its poor single thread performance. Plus, good luck finding an LGA1567 motherboard. A Skylake i5 would certainly be powerful enough for an RX 480. If you want i7 performance then your best bet would be a Haswell Xeon E3-1231V3, but it's still more expensive than the Skylake i5.

Dear All,

Thank you for your inputs and help extended.. Yes, I understand your points and sure will look into i5 option.. It is just that am on a bit tight on budget for a gaming machine and hence, thought of xeon.. But will surely check these options. Will come back soon. Thank you.
