I have an Asus P6T Deluxe V2, Core i7 920 (@ 3.6 GHz), Noctua U12P SE1366 w/Scythe SFF21G and 12GB of Corsair Dominator C8. My settings are CPU Ratio = 18, BCLK = 200, CPU Voltage = 1.25, QPI/DRAM Voltage = 1.23, HT = Enabled and Speedstep = Disabled. Running LinX on 100 passes, load temperature is 80C, idle is around 34C. Ambient room temperature is 80F.

Can anyone with a similar overclock (3.2 to 3.8) please report back with your temperatures? Also state the HSF you use and related voltages. Installing the CPU heatsink I used the thin line method of NT-H1 compound. Even although I think re-seating the CPU heatsink again will help, I've re-seated it seven times and get similar temperatures every time.

Thanks.

Asus P6T Deluxe V2, Core i7 920, Noctua U12P SE1366, 6GB of Corsair XMS

Ratio = 20
BCLK = 190
Speedstep = Enabled
Turbo=Disabled
CPU Voltage = 1.25 V
QPI/DRAM = 1.2125 V
CPU PLL = 1.82 V

I just installed the HSF yesterday and running some test for temps. myself.
So far @ 3.6 low 40-42 at idle & 72-74 at load (prime 95)
@3.8 41-43 at idle & 74-76 at load

I'm not sure if I should re-seat the heatsink again b/c there is a 4-5 C difference between the 1st and 4th core at idle and under load (i.e. 42-41-42-37).

Which way did you face the HSF? front to rear or bottom to top

Ah good, you've got the same board and HSF as me! At idle I can get around 34C, but at load it jumps up to 80C. I spent two days re-seating my HSF, using different methods for compound, the temperatures weren't radically different.

I faced my heatsink horizontally, in other words the heatsink fan blasting air towards the rear case fan. I tried 1 x Noctua P12 (52 CFM), 2 x Noctua P12 (52 CFM) and 1 x Scythe SFF21G (75 CFM). I'm using the Scythe for now.

For QPI/DRAM I can't go below 1.23750 otherwise I'll bluescreen in LinX. I want to make my CPU Voltage go below 1.25 as I've read on other posts on the Internet, but in my BIOS the setting under 1.25 is Auto.

My settings are:

CPU Ratio = 18
BCLK = 200
CPU Voltage = 1.25
QPI/DRAM Voltage = 1.23750
DRAM Voltage = 1.60
Hyper-Threading = Enabled
SpeedStep = Disabled
C1E/LLC = Enabled
Spread Spectrums = Disabled

So far, not bad I suppose, although 80C is higher than I'd like. There's no way I'd risk going for 3.8 as a lot of people seem to be able to do. FYI, differences between the temperatures of the cores is apparently normal.

What method did you use to apply the thermal compound? As per the instructions with 4-5mm blob, line or spread it yourself?

Thanks for your feedback.

I'll admit it, I'm jealous! What are your load temperatures in LinX? Also what method did you use for the thermal compound, dot, line or spread? Thanks for the feedback, interesting.

In order to go above 3.2 Ghz I had to set to CPU Voltage to 1.25 or else BSOD.

Are you still rock'n the Antec Solo case. I'm using the Thermaltake Armor+ MX, which has a huge 240 mm fan on the side that almost touches my HSF. Case cooling may be the issue, but I'm not expert or even close to one.

Well your lower temperatures are likely the lower QPI/DRAM Voltage setting, I'd like to go to 1.21 but I get a BSOD at that setting. Anything below 1.23750 causes a BSOD for me in LinX after just one pass.

No, I'm in the Lian-Li A17B case now. I've got Scythe SFF21G's, one at the front in front of a drive cage, and one at the rear. I'll try 3.8 GHz just for laughs, when the temp gets too high I'll kill the stress test.

Antec Solo was a great case, just not wide enough for 11.5" video cards like the 4870 X2 I have just now.

LinX is after 5 passes, is the same as Intel Burn Test. I use AS5, so I did the line method, shown on their website.

I did at one point use 200 bclk, but found that lower bclk with turbo was a little cooler. However ambient temps around my area has been cool lately, 60F - 70F. I can say that on a hot day 80F +, I'd be mid 70C - 80C on load too.

My ambient temperature is about 80F, according to the Oregon weather clock I have in my room. I'll try a lower BCLK and see if that makes a difference, I doubt it though, not for me, I'm sure I've tried it already.

I found why I couldn't reduce the CPU voltage below 1.25. There's three jumpers on the motherboard which allows CPU Voltage, QPI/DRAM and DRAM voltage overvolting. I put all three jumpers back to their default position and now I can set low voltages in the BIOS. These jumpers were in the non-default position from new (Newegg.com).

Now I've discovered this, I'm at CPU Voltage 1.20 stable. The maximum temperature last night at 83F ambient was 75C in LinX 100 passes. This morning ambient is 76F and running 100 passes of LinX gives me a maximum of 71C, much better. I'm going to try and reduce the volts more on the CPU Voltage, start at 1.15 and work up to get stability.

I'm going to move my drive cage from the middle three slots to the lower three slots, then install a Panaflo medium 120x120x38 in the middle to blast cold air into the middle of the board. The area around the Northbridge is very hot, I need more air blowing over that area. I'll also put a Panaflo 120x120x38 at the back as well.

Thanks for your help.

I'm running 3.318GHz @ 1.100v...i could possible go a bit lower, we'll see. Due to high mem&uncore frquency, 1901MHz DDR3 & uncore 3802MHz I had to pump the QPI/DRAM up to 1.4250v to avoid blue screen during prime testing.

Well, I've been folling around with my OC on my i7 system for the past week.....

So I have a few OC settings... Which are at 3.57 w/turbo, 3.8 w/turbo, 3.8w/o Turbo, and 4.0 w/turbo, and 4.2 w/ and w/o Turbo.

My favorite is 3.6.... due to the fact, anything over, real performance, asside of synthetic benches, there is no noticable gain

Highest Temp I have ever goten at 4.2 was around cores with 80C of prime95 small FTTs

My System:

i7 920 D0
Asus P6T
OCZ intel XMP 12800 1600 MHZ (3x2GB Kit)
Diamond 4890 XOC (925/1050 Factory OC)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB 16MB (x2 RAID0 1TB)
OCZ ModXtreamPRO 700W
Prolimatech Megahalem (Push ONLY for now CM 12cm 90CFM rated Fan)
Coolermaster 590 w/ 3 CM 12cm 90CFM Intake, 2 CM 12cm 90CFM Exhaust

My current setup is:

For the i7 920 3.6 OC
BCLK @ 200
DDR MHZ @ 1600 7-7-7-20
CPU multi @ 18
CPU @ 1.15V
QPI/DRAM @ 1.300V
DRAM BUS @ 1.64V

LLC - Enabled

Measuring with RealTemp and Prime95 small FTTs run

Idle 37
Load 62

Megahalem cooler w/ push only.

My room is around 25-28C.... happens to be the hottest room in the house as well... lucky me ;-p

Damn you with your DO stepping.....

Why do you choose to turn the CPU Multi down and leave the BCLK on 200, not turn the BCLK down? Let me know, Mite try your settings...

Mine never go's over 74c running on MAX on Prime 95 (EG: Max power, Max heat) Its been on 4ghz for a while now, I have ubber cooling system, Domino A.L.C backed up by loads and loads of fans...
