I have an old Dell Dimension 3100 tower (2006) it has a Std VGA Graphic adaptor that requires upgrading the cheapest way.Is an Intel(R) Celeron (R) CPU 2.8 GHz sufficient to run Minecraft? The computer has a 32 bit card.
What do you recommend?

A Celeron from 2006 and no add-on video card will not run Minecraft. It will stuggle alot with it even with a video card.

You need to get a new computer.

A 3 gig Core 2 Duo or a Core 2 Quad would do it along with a lower end gamig card like a Radeon 7750 which you can find used now, and is a good card for lower power systems.

Thanks for the email.
The computer which is exactly at bought in 2006 but with the RAM increased to 2gb work Windows t perfectly and shows DVD's. Surely there must be a suitable video card for the computer. My grandson is not using high end games. Can anyone suggest a graphic card without resulting to buying a new computer. I am prepared to consider updating parts if commercially viable.

Just running Windows and playing DVDs is not the same thing as running games.

Open the case and make sure you have a PCIe slot avaiable for a video card and also look at the power supply and post the brand and model an what the max wattage rating is.

You're welcome to buy a video card for it, but the CPU and RAM will keep the computer from playing games well at anything past low settings and probably also lower resolution.

Updating parts will cost you more than buying a full working used system that is faster. Minecraft is not exacly high end for graphics but does like a decent CPU and RAM amount. The computer you have is just a tick or two under the minimum specs for Minecraft which means while it may run, it will be jerky and look pretty bad.
