Requirements for bread boarding old MB

Is there anything else besides the computer parts that I need to breadboard (e.g. A stand or something)?

The only thing you absolutely need is a clean non-conductive surface, preferably made of a material that does not easily generate static electricity such as wood.

Will cardboard be sufficient?

Cardboard is fine. I usually use the motherboard box. DO NOT use the Anti-Static bags that parts come in.
