Resale value on 6700K (When should be my next upgrade?)

So I have been planning on upgrading my CPU to a newer gen, even though my 6700k is not quite a year old yet. I assume it will be by the time 8th gen comes out. The other thing is that I know how the tic-toc cycle works somewhat and I know that the next 14nm refinement can't be all that great... I'm guessing for general gaming, it will be about 10% faster than what I have now. (Let's assume a base clock of 4.5GHz Turbo boost to 4.8GHz)

Which brings me to the point that my current chip (6700K) is OC'd to 4.7GHz already, so in reality I will only see about 2-3% performance increase with base stats. (If it can overclock as well as Kaby Lake does, it should OC well over 5.2GHz, which actually would give me a decent performance bump, assuming I even need to OC past 5.0GHz)

Knowing that, I have been questioning wether it is even worth spending what will surely be $700-$800 upgrading my CPU, MB, and RAM for that small upgrade. Ideally I would like to NOT have to OC my chip much, as to hold its value for the next time I upgrade.

But really my question is how will my resale value be on my current stuff?
If I wanted to wait for 9th gen., which SHOULD be the 10nm architecture, which again should be released sometime in 2018 (probably Q1,Q2 as long as they keep their timeline, which it seems may not be so, since I have heard they are having trouble with 10nm, hence another 14nm refinement) What could I realistically expect from selling my current hardware.

This is a huge deal because I am planning on a good chunk of the new hardware to be offset by how much I can sell my old hardware for (hopefully at least half of it). And obviously since I have it overclocked, I am reducing its lifespan (and value) as I speak.

Currently I have had the 6700K for almost a year (10 months as of now) but it has only been overclocked for about a month or so, but the OC is fairly high, and the VCCIO reads just under 1.4v (which everyone recommends keeping it under to increase the longevity)

So what would be more prudent?
Upgrading sooner so that the current chip is not degraded further by the OC, keeping the resale value higher?
Or just waiting it out til 9th Gen?

Also wondering what I could realistically expect to get out of my hardware?

Go to ebay and find your parts in used condition.
Then filter on completed auctions.
In green, you will see what the parts actually sold for.
I see the 6700K as fetching around $250.

Prudence says keep your 6700K.
You have a good chip.

What percent can get an overclock at a somewhat sane 1.4v Vcore.

I7-6700K
4.9 5%
4.8 21%
4.7 64%
4.6 96%

5.2 is not likely for a 7700K OC

What is the rest of your current parts?
What is the primary use for this PC?

It is unlikely that anything you upgrade to will be very helpful if you are a gamer.
That applies to ram also; few games are limited by 8gb, let alone 16gb.
4 sticks does not give you 4 channel operation unless you are looking at X299 class motherboards.

If money is burning a hole in your pocket, look into a X4 pcie based ssd, or a 4k gaming monitor.

Yes, I am a gamer, but unfortunately the majority of games I play are poorly optimized crap games, or games that I have modified the code for so they don't work exactly right anymore (I run in 3440x1440 and 100Hz, to do so I have to modify the code and I know in at least one case it makes the game work like twice as hard for some reason) so I am really just trying to power through the bad, lol. xD

For instance, WoW mostly uses one core, and I still am seeing big drops in fps in certain areas and it is bugging the heck out of me. Before OCing I would get as low as 40fps in raids, and about 60fps in largely populated areas. By OCing from 4.2 TB -> 4.7, I have gotten a solid 15-20fps bump in that game, also happens to be what I play most. Not even on the highest settings (at about a 7/10 which is pre-Legion Ultra) GPU is a 1080 Ti and barely gets used in that game, I very very rarely see it get to 99% usage, and usually thats when I have the FPS limiter off and its trying to hit 200+ fps.

I know the RAM amount wouldn't help but I basically only want 4 sticks because of the looks. I'm perfectly fine keeping 16GB, but they don't make those kits in 4x4GB. And they don't even make 4GB sticks. I might keep my 2 stick config since that is the most recommended setup, but I do a lot just for looks in my build. Best case it might help with the heavy multi-tasking I do, a little...

Also not looking at 7700K, that would be insane! lol. I think the 8th gen should be more than capable of it, assuming the 7700K can easily OC to 5.0GHz, which is what I have heard.

The rest of my setup is in my sig.

So it seems the RAM is still going for like $100, which I would reasonably try to get $80 out of, with the CPU going for $250, that leaves the board, which was hard to find. And most of those are going for like half of what they are new. I think I could get $175 out of mine, since I still have the box and all of the extra crap. So I think as a package deal I could ask $500 for it bundled, about $550 sold separately. That sound like a decent amount?
