That’s very interesting. So it seems these drums can be used as a homologue to the light amplifiers utilized in long distance optical fiber communications.

It seems to me that distributed quantum computing over the internet is not the way to go. If/when the technology exists to distribute the quantum workload over long distances, then the technology will exist to just build a better all-in-one quantum computer with far fewer problems.
