The researchers say the portable device uses an in-house developed AI called 'DeWave.'
Oh no they didn't...

I don't know anyone who natively thinks in such complete and pithy sentences.

...at least, if they do, they don't talk like it!

The researchers also say there are challenges as the current system is only 40% efficient.
I'm sure they mean "accurate".

The team is confident it can boost its efficiency up to 90%.
How can you be so confident about something so difficult, before you've done it?

Better Than Elon's Invasive, Permanent and Controversial Neuralink?
I think implants will always have an advantage. I don't see how you can ever do as well with electrodes. Their algorithms & processing technology might be more sophisticated, but I'll bet they'd see immediate accuracy improvements by applying them to the Neuralink implants.

EEG cannot feed back to neurons, so comparing an EEG-based output only device to any sort of direct BCI (Neuralink or otherwise) is about as useful as comparing a monitor to a mouse.

EEG cannot feed back to neurons,
Not necessarily needed, for this. If feedback were involved, you'd get it by looking at the monitor and reading how your thought was interpreted.

so comparing an EEG-based output only device to any sort of direct BCI (Neuralink or otherwise) is about as useful as comparing a monitor to a mouse.
Bad analogy. A better one would be monitor vs. VR headset. Or normal mouse vs. haptic-enhanced mouse.
