I've been troubleshooting with GM's about a game that keeps crashing on my brand new computer.

Up until now they have given me very clear step by step instructions on how to approach it. Now however they said this:

"Since you are still having the same issues the next step that we would suggest is to reset your BIOS. You can find instructions on how to do so by going to your motherboard manufacture website."

Typed in asus motherboard bios reset on google, but all I got was this: https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1030210/

I'm not sure which of these steps are for me, and I definitely don't feel comfortable fiddling around with hardware. I just don't know what to do anymore.

My motherboard is: Asus TUF B360M-PLUS Gaming, mATX, 4xDDR4, S1151

Welcome to the forums my friend!

What is the exact issue you are having?
What is your FULL system spec including PSU make and model?

If you are just looking to RESET you BIOS, you need only take out your CMOS battery for a minute, or access the BIOS and select Restore to Defaults. If they want you to flash your BIOS however, that's different. Resetting it just brings it back to default settings.

With the MMO guild wars 2 my game "crashes".

Basically what happens is, after playing for a bit my screen goes black with my cursor still visible and moveable. When I go to my desktop and view the program it is still running without errors in my ctrl+alt+del window and on my taskbar. When it happens I've asked other people in my household to check my in-game status on their own computers/accounts and they told me I appear as offline when it happens. At this point the only way to end the game is through the ctrl+alt+del window.

I've already tried numerous things that the gm's suggested and now they want me to reset my bios.

So.. let me get this straight... I have to open up my computer, find the text CMOS on my motherboard, and unplug whatever is next to it for a minute? x_x

@PC Tailor

I don't know how to do it. Can you please help me?

I took two pictures of my motherboard:

@PC Tailor You misunderstood.

I did not reset my CMOS because I don't know where to find it or what it looks like. That's why I included the pictures. Maybe you can find it on the pictures and draw a red circle around it??

I really don't know how this hardware stuff works.

Can you please help me find the CMOS and give clear instructions on what I must do to reset my BIOS?

Apologies, I got you confused with someone else asking me about resetting CMOS in a PM!

The CMOS is the silver circlular battery on your motherboard in the bottom picture. Just pop that our for 1 minute then plug back and it will reset the BIOS.

Thank you x_x it was a struggle in such a cramped space, thank goodness my hands are tiny. Managed to get the battery out. This motherboard does not work well with my computerbox space wise..

Thanks for the help. Any more trouble shooting and I'm becoming quite the tech wiz 🙁 I don't like doing this type of stuff. I'm always scared I mess up or make things worse somehow.

Ok so I put it back in after waiting a couple minutes.
Now I started the computer back up and I get this screen:

@PC Tailor

Can you please tell me what I'm supposed to do?
If I enter the setup to recover teh BIOS setting, then what was exactly the point in resetting it by taking the battery out and putting it back in again?

Clearing the CMOS returns BIOS settings to default values.

The Exit menu items allow you to load the optimal default values for the BIOS items, and save or discard your changes to the BIOS items. Your supposed to LOAD OPTIMIZED SETTINGS from the Exit menu. Next, set your memory parameters. You can do this by enabling (DOCP) or manually. Make any other custom settings you may have had prior to clearing the CMOS.

Since clearing the CMOS returns settings to default values, you may want to write down what the settings were before you clear the CMOS.

Maybe you didn't notice the question, "What is your FULL system spec including PSU make and model? ".

Your video card may not have enough juice to run it. You mentioned the screen going black in games.

My specs:
processor: intel(R) core(TM) i7-8700 CPU @ 3.20GHz 3.19Ghz
RAM: 16GB
system: 64bit x 64 processor
Activated version of windows 10

Since I already took out the battery, put it back in, and started it, isn't it a little late now to write down what the settings were? Also I have no idea how to go about knowing what those settings were. Can you please explain to me step by step how to find out?

You said what the exit menu does, but you forgot to explain how I can even enter the exit menu. 🙁 Please keep in mind that I know little to nothing about this type of stuff so I really need clear instructions and explanation on what the best coarse of action is and how to actually do it. Thanks for helping.

(This is not really relevent, but felt like sharing: I also contacted the company I bought the computer from and they explained to me that the error might be of the game instead of my PC, which makes me a little upset that the GM's of the game keep having me try different things instead of them fixing the issue.)

Do what it’s telling you to do when it boots up with that screen press the F1 key and you will go into the BIOS and then reset the BIOS to the optimal levels and then exit and save your changes

Set the date and time there, then save/exit and try to boot.

If it doesn't boot successfully on defaults, then Windows was probably installed when a setting such as Legacy BIOS or AHCI was toggled. The manner in which it crashes may provide a clue on what settings you might try next.

@BFG-9000 Thank you, I did as you asked and changed the date/time and save/exit. As I pressed F10 to save/exit it asked me if I was sure as I had not made any changes, so I hit the yes button. After that my computer started as normal.

Thanks so much everyone for the help. I had no idea what I was doing, and still have very little idea of what it was I did or how it will affect my computer, but with your wisdom and guidance I was able to reset the bios, whatever that entails.
