I'm at level 28 and have just killed diablo ( he killed me 5 or 6 times
first ) and then I got killed in cow level then I got killed in act one of
nightmare. Now I notice that all my resistances start at minus 20.
I'm assuming that my resistances were reduced because I got killed so often.
Will I every get those points back?

Not exactly, but you can make them up. 🙂
There's a penalty in Nightmare.

Well, it won't be handed to you wrapped in paper, that's for sure! 🙂
Basically, you'll be getting better equipment gradually, which will make up
for it. Are you playing SP or bnet? Which character? Most people would say
level 28 is a bit low for going into nightmare, you'd probably want to stay
in normal for a while to level up.

By the way - sounds like you're not playing expansion? RUN out and buy it,
worth every penny!

Your resistance is lowered by 40 percent in nightmare, and 100 percent
in hell difficulty. If your resistance is much negative I suggest you
play a bit in normal difficulty to find better equipment.

You dont loose resists from dying.

You start Normal with 0% resists, Nightmare with -40% resists & Hell
with -100% resists.
To raise your resists you will need equipment or charms with resist's on
them

A favorite of mine is using the socket quest of Act-5 (Quest-1) and adding
an Um rune into my helm and/or sheild :)

.... in LoD (the expansion). Classic has -20% in NM and -50% in hell.

The OP is LVL 28 and just entering NM. I don't think he has an Um!
