Resolution for other than gaming

how should I think about resolution with a monitor not including gaming. So web browsing and watching movies. Is a 1440p worth buying with a Gtx 1060

Whether or not 1440p will be noticeable depends on monitor size and how far away you sit.

Or are you asking if a GTX 1060 can handle 1440p for basic applications like browsing? Yes, easily, even much weaker cards could manage that.

It would be a 27inch, i sit about an arms lenght away when working. about 15 feet when watching a movie

Most MP4 format like on youtube is at 25 frames/sec, also some flv (adobe flash) format is 24 frame/sec so any CRT or LCD/LED display works fine for browsing. Normally, a blueray and HD movie is at 30 to 60 frames/sec so even integrated graphic will have no problem for movie playback.
