Resolution hype in current-gen consoles

As is generally known Sony and Microsoft released upgraded versions of their PS4 and Xbox One consoles. Namely, PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. They promoted and advertised these upgraded versions as capable of rendering game graphics in 4K resolution.

The question is this: why make such versions when all 4K TV's have integrated CPU/SoC which seamlessly upscales FullHD content to 4K output picture?

"Buy our console and have your TV upscale the output to 4K resolution" doesn't make for good marketing.

Faux 4K is just that, fake. I can use Nvidia's control panel and make a similar change that's called DSR over here.

IMHO, consoles never were about resolution. From 1984 to 2004 most consoles provided 240i - 480p resolution on CRT TVs. Consoles were about great games and fun! Designers of next gen consoles should give gamers: instant loading from ssds (like during cartridge era), stable 60 FPS and nice graphics. Otherwise we have a stupid situation: Xbox One X is 5 times more powerful then Xbox One but provide similar graphics and FPS, only resolution differs. Who cares about resolution sitting several meters from TV? It is not PC or laptop where you bend above keyboard and are 30 cm from the display.
