Hai friends!
I just got a new Toshiba 29" HD TV (29p1300ZE).... checked the cover, manual and nowhere it mentions its resolution...i checked on internet and it says HD ready 1366 x 768,but when I connect it to my laptop via hdmi my lap detects the resolution as 1920x1080 reccomended...I am confused ....how to know its real resolution.....BTW there is a clear difference in playing HD and Full HD videos....1080p videos seems much sharper....but how come this happen?

Thanks

Solution

Yes, thats exactly how it works. The TV will present it self as 1080p capable, then downscale. This is totally normal behavior.
1080p is Full HD. Depending on the monitor models and specs, the internet may not pick it up as a HD monitor. Are you using windows 8.1 or 7 or Vista or anything else?

If you are using windows 8.1 then right click on your desktop and select 'Screen Resolution'
Click on resolution again in the window and see what is the recommended resolution shown.

Some TV's support displaying 1080p even though they only have 720p panels, the image is down-sampled to 720p, I've got one at home. If it is the case that you have a 720p set that supports 1080p with down-sampling the image will be crisper at 720p than 1080p.

It's a HD Ready TV with a resolution of 1366x768 pixels. That is the number of pixels the TV actually physically has. In some cases, the supported resolutions exceed this native resolution, in which case it is shown reduced on your TV. This is known as downsampling.
