Resolution on a sapphire r9 390

I read all the reviews about r9 390 and almost everyone of them mentioned that r9 390 is capable of giving 2k or 4k resolution even if the monitor supports only 1080p. But I haven't been able to use that resolution on any game. So i wanted to ask that whether it is true or just a rumor?

While the card can "Do" 4k, you actually need a display that can "do" it too to actually see it as far as I know.

4k is nothing more than four 1080 display resolutions in a 2x2 arrangement but all in one screen.
1080 is 1920x1080 resolution and 4k is 4196x2160 which is slightly bigger than quadHD's true 2x2 resolution of 3840x2160
