Resolution on programs has changed after upgrading to windows 8.1

Most of the computers resolution is fine: games, the desktop and windows apps have the right resolution. Yet for some reason, since the update, all desktop apps, with the exception of internet explorer for desktop :/ (Chrome, Skype and Steam) have a low resolution. Any ideas/tips?
