Resolution performance?

Hey guys,

well its 2013, and I have a new years resolution of 1680 x 1050 now

Jokes aside, I have a decent gaming setup right now, using a crappy 1366 x 768 monitor. Comp specs are as follows:

AMD Phenom II x4 965 3.4ghz
HiS Raedon 7770 1gb
8gb DDR3 Ram
500w Power supply
500gb HHD

For new years I got a new 1680 x 1050 monitor to use for my PC. Its primarily a gaming PC. These are the games I'm playing right now:

I'm also playing Skyrim and SWTOR a lot.

My question is, should I expect a performance drop while gaming on a higher resolution? If so, how drastic?

New years resolution! Good one. Onto you post. The link is empty, so I'll go with the two games you listed. Yes, a high resolution means more work for the graphics card, and unless your cpu is capping your fps (possibile for MMO) or you're using a high gpu (you're not) you may see FPS drop or have to lower GPU intensive settings like AA. That said, I think you'll be ok, the resolution is still lower than "standard" these days.

I loved my 1680x1050 monitor!
The 16:10 aspect ratio is just that little bit more 'Imax' than the typical 16:9...
16:9 is like looking through a mail slot, heheh.
But nobody sells 16:10 anymore - they are extinct.
Top-o-the-line dream monitors, for years, were 1920x1200 (16:10).
You try to find these now? You can't.
The whole world is looking through their 1920x1080 mail slot these days...
It is unfortunately the only game in town.
My beloved 1680x1050 monitor died about 6 months ago, and I picked up a new 27" LG for pretty good deal, $269 bucks. It is 1920x1080.
I didn't really notice a performance drop moving to the higher resolution.
But Tommy's testing shows a small but distinct drop in FPS - maybe 4 to 5 frames.
So yes, you will not get quite the performance you had with the previous lower-resolution monitor.
But close! And you're one of the lucky ones - 16:10 is fantastic (if you can find one).
Again; I want 1920x1200 but it's just impossible... >sniffle<

Ok, a 5 fps drop is very reasonable. I'm not sure why the link isn't working, but these are the games I'm playing a lot right now:

Team fortress 2: (I get easily 180+ fps on this game so I'm not worried)
Planetside 2
Metro 2033
Left for Dead 2
Crysis 2

You have to look, but 1920x1200 monitors can still be found. I got my Dell U2412M about six months ago, and I LOVE IT!
