Many years ago I purchased an Acer Aspire 5750 laptop. It came preinstalled with Windows 7. After a few years there was an issue with the hard drive so I took it to get repaired and they replaced the hard drive with a new one, also preinstalled with Windows 7. I recently had to do a factory restore on this hard drive using a legitimate windows 7 disk I had lying around. After doing so I see that in the system settings it says Windows is not active and that the product key is incorrect. It is showing an OEM key next to 'product id'...

I also don't have any restore points if that would make a difference...
What can I do about this? How can I reactivate Windows?

Unfortunately that didn't help in the slightest...
It basically just says to contact Microsoft

Ok so looking around the internet I found a method to recover my activation key using a simple script in notepad, which I did successfully, however when I try to enter it into the activation box I get an error about 50% the way through

"0xC004E003 - The Software Licensing Service reported that the license evaluation failed."

Do I still need to contact Acer?
