Restore the graphics card

I have an NVIDIA graphics card. Windows recently forced an update with did not install the graphics driver correctly. When the system boots up, I see nothing, the screen is blank. I put in the restore disk, set the restore point back, and rebooted... everything worked fine. The system, however, updated again, so when I tried to reset the machine to the previous restore point, it was gone... I am stuck with either dos from the Vista disk, or no view of anything. Save mode seems to hang at null.sys so I can't get safe mode to work either... any idea how to set up a system video driver from dos?

Do you have automatic update set? I ask cuz yesterday I encountered problems and had to use a disk image from two months ago to restore my computer; however i didn't update windows in the past week.

I set the NVIDIA driver not to update, but there were like 4 or 5 updates on 4/12... If I can't get an answer, I'll just reinstall on another drive and copy over from there, but what a pain
