[SOLVED] restoring password and username

is there a way to know what my forgotten username and password is? for cisco dpc3825? i already changed the default username and password..and now, i cant remember it anymore? where can i find or retrieve it?

The vast majority of routers are deigned to prevent this. You can reset the router to factory but there is no way to recover a configuration other than some small number of routers that let you back it up.

The reason it works this way is to prevent someone from using the reset function in your router to find your passwords or make changes. Someone could break into your house and reset the router but the person could never set it back the way it was so you would notice that someone tampered with it.

The default is both user name and password blank.
If someone set this differently you need to perform a factory reset. To do that reset you need to press and hold the reset button on the rear of the device. Hold it for 30 seconds, then without releasing the reset button pull the power cable from the rear of the device. Continue to hold the reset button after it's been powered down for another 30 seconds and then plug the power back in. Continue holding the reset button, allow another 30 seconds after you've plugged the power back in. This should set the user name and password back to blank.
