"restricted" calls

hello.
i have a verizon wireless env2.

for the past couple weeks i've been getting restricted calls. when i answer, there is noone on the other end and THEY hang up once i say hello.

it's freaking me out because the calls are always when i'm alone or the when i'm the only one awake.

is there anyway i can uncover the restricted number? there's no callback number and i havn't found a way to figure out where it's coming from.

if your really scared and you dont think its a friend playing a prank report it to the police as harrasment ... they can then request the number from verizon and track down who it is

Hi, same thing has been happening to me. I noticed that Verizon has gotten a new feature to block restricted calls amongst other things. I am a verizon customer also. Maybe it is Verizon that is calling it's customers and hanging up when they answer to get them to purchase the new Usage Controls feature.

so i purchased it for $4.99 a month extra and I still haven't been able to set the damn thing up online, even with a verizon rep on the other line. She was clueless about their own website not functioning properly.

all that aside, it is most likely not some creep stalking you, because from what I have seen online, a lot of people are experiencing the same exact thing, including me.

This happened to me too, a long time ago. The steps I was instructed to take after dialing a certain number (depending on your phone provider, there's a number you dial to trace calls), you must contact your local police department who will subpoena your phone service provider for their records. If you wish to pursue at that point, then you can. However I am unable to tell you if the details of who called you will be given out to you.

I have had the same problem. I bought a new phone a Wal mar two weeks ago and get those calls to. The phone rings and Restricted number comes up. The phone will ring constanly until I ansewer it. There is never anyone on the line when I do. Other calls ring five times the go to voice mail. Not these calls. When I look at incoming call history there is nothing to suggest I ever recieved the call. This is very strange indeed. I too would like to know what this is. I know it is not a person I know playing games. So you are not alone. If you find out what it is please post it.


My friend says it is part of a government project and that they are tracking people. I am not a criminal and have never been in trouble so I think it is nonsense but it makes me wonder.

Right? Me, too! It's hard not to be paranoid. I bought a cheap verizon phone from walmart about a year ago and started getting the call about a month ago. My phone even answers it sometimes and only disconnects if I open the phone and push 'end'! I feel so exposed!
