i thought the point of the retail hsf was it was quiet. i just got one for a tbred 1700, its one of them really low profile fans, thing sounds like a freaking hair dryer!! the whine i mean, its not THAT loud. think i could get away with running it at 7 volts?

my computer is so fast, it completes an endless loop in less than 4 seconds!

Thats odd, when i got my tbred 1700+ it came with the retail cooler, including the low profile 60mm fan. While not silent, i didnt think the whine was bad, alot better than many other 3rd party 60mm "quiet" fans at any rate.

Maybe you were unlucky and got a fan with bad bearings.

I dont think you would have to get as low as 7v for itt o be acceptable, a 5W rheostat should be more than enough to quiet it down. Or maybe hunt around for a new 60mm fan that IS quiet

That is weird, I also got a 1700+ with the stock heatsink, I found it to be very quiet. If I were you, I would just get a new 60mm fan, they are very cheap... try www.nexfan.com, they have a lot of good cheap stuff.

i just volt moded it so it runs nice and quiet too, 52 degrees with toast running for a couple hours, no case fans, just the fan in the enermax spinning at 1600 rpm. the loudest part is the hard drive.

my computer is so fast, it completes an endless loop in less than 4 seconds!

Good going! Those low end Tbreds are nice aint they?
