Retrieve data from laptop SSD?

I have a HP Pavilion laptop that I have given up on, however the SSD inside it is intact and have some data I would like to retrieve (to my other PC). I have never done anything like that before, and was wondering if anyone would know a good way to do this. Can I hook it up on my PC, or do I need to format it? Should I look for a laptop to borrow, connect the SSD to it and save the data to a flash-drive? Or is there any other cheap ways of getting the data from the SSD?

You can connect it to your desktop PC -- do not format it until you get the data from it that you want.

You can also use an external adapter or dock if you don't want to open your PC.

Is this a standard 2.5" SSD ?
Some use mSATA (older laptops) more modern ones use M2 and require win 8 or latter

Adapters to SATA are available on Amazon
