Retrieve data from my old and working drive from another computer

Hello greetings to everyone, I had a laptop that gave up on me back in the days. I'm told the mother board is fried, so I got a new machine. But I have files on the old hard drive that I'd like to copy unto the new laptop. I put the old drive in another laptop but won't boot. It requires fresh installation but I don't want to lose my files. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

You cannot expect a laptop to boot in to Windows that was installed on a different laptop.

Buy an external hard drive enclosure for the old drive that you need to copy files from.
