Retrieving files from an SSD that was water damaged?

My friend's kid spilled water on his MacBook Pro and it will not boot up. He has already tried to power it on several times so the whole thing may be fried at this point. It has been several days now since this happened and on the day it happened he took it to the apple store, they opened it and said there was still water inside, though it was against policy to assist with it unless he paid to have the whole thing rebuilt. I am going to help him open it up and take the SSD out and place it into an external dock to try and recover some of the files. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice they can provide before we do this?

Thanks.

make sure its dry.

don't know what kind of ssd it has but if its one that has a cover over the chips make sure to learn how to disassemble the plasitic cover off and make sure that it is dry inside of it. if there was signs of water inside of the ssd let it sit open a few days pref with some form of air blowing on it. as most ssd have Ball Grid array chips it can be hard for the water to get out from under the chip. almost say sit it in a warm sunny window also could help evaporate water in it. also really just avoid rubbing on it as you don't want to risk any static electricity at all.

different ssd covers are different way to pull apart. a lot of them just snap together but each one is different, you usually can just google on how to open the cover off.
