Retrieving Photos from Bricked iPhone

I have an iPhone 5s that I had for less than a year before it died when it simply refused to take a charge until it ran out. Of course this happened while driving home from out of state, so I was unable to put my photos from both Gen Con 50 and my wedding(!) onto my computer before the phone died.

Apparently there had been no backup to iCloud, so retrieving the photos that way is a no-go.

From what I understand, it is very difficult if not impossible to retrieve photos that are lost this way. And I am not sure why that is, since the data should still be there. The problem appeared to be with the phone refusing to take a charge, as it worked fine while the battery was draining away.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what, if anything, I can do about this? I am willing to go through a repair service if any exist, but they all seem either sketchy, far out of my area, or diabolically expensive. I suspect some of this is because Apple just deliberately makes it difficult to retrieve information off of their iPhones when they die -- why, I am not sure.

Anyway - would really like those photos back. Is there anything I can do?

If the problem really is only that the phone won't take a charge, then the simplest work-around would be to externally recharge the battery (or hook up an external ~4V power supply) and do your backup afterward.

The reason why data recovery on iPhones and many newer devices are complicated or nearly impossible by any other mean than repairing the device itself at least to the point that it becomes operational again is because many modern devices encrypt their storage using a unique secret hardware key buried inside the CPU, which means decryption is nearly impossible on any other device.
hmm...if i were you i'd just go with the repair shop option. maybe you can tell the shop the problem might be the battery not charging so maybe they can open it up and ghetto connect the battery to charge it- though, that might be risky and maybe fry something if it isnt already.

Otherwise, i really dont have any other idea.

i know how bad it is to lose some crucial pictures. i really hope you manage to get them back.

hope i helped
and good luck
