Hello, recently my sandy bridge system died, and I had to upgrade my motherboard and all. I picked up a 6700k, extreme4 z170 and 8gb 2666mhz ddr4 ram for $528 at microcenter.. After wanting to do a black and white themed build with sleeved cables, the full nine yards I couldn't find any cheap motherboards for z170 and I compromised on this setup. However after now owning it for bout a week I have looked up mobo/cpu's at Microcenter and put together a z97 msi krait and 4790k for $420.. Would it be worth saving $100 and going to the 4790k? Would I lose performance you think?

I have read 6700k is anywhere from 1-10% faster than the 6700k but is it worth the extra money? Let me know what you guys think, I'm not super rich, or close.. So saving money would be great, as I have my old ddr3 ram I can still use. I'd save that $100 to put towards a gpu this upcoming check, or after christmas.. I currently have a 7950 that needs to be upgraded!

Solution
Stick with your current system, faster ram, better ipc (faster cpu at same frequency), you got more options in the future with upgrades and the list can go on. My advice keep it, don't return it.

Okau great, I will stick with my 6700k. I think I got lucky with this chip, on a hyper 212 evo, I get 19c-21c idle Temps max! My load Temps are about 49-62c. And this is on an air cooler, and my frames are much higher in every game than when I had my 2500k @ 4.8ghz.

Nice! Yea keep the 6700k and all that jazz. The 212 EVO is a great air cooler that I highly recommend so that's nice.

And don't forget to select a solution for the next person with the same question :)

Yeah, I will be upgrading to water soon. I used to use the first generation of corsair water coolers and they were so loud and not any better than my 212, but the new ones are nice! I will mostly go with a kzxt kraken x61

Yeah, because currently when I overclock to 4.4-4.6, my Temps are too high for my taste. Do you recommend upgrading my z170 asrock extreme4 mobo? I wasn't too sure with most reviews being so fresh. I wanted to go MSI or asus, but didn't have the money I'm within return policy and have gotten paid since so I'm capable now :D
