hello
I plugged a Sata power cable into a 4*4 cpu connector (modular cpu) and it overloaded the hard drives (www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2579624/ssd-plugged-inn-cpu-power.html) I have now buyed a new ssd, but can I reuse the same Sata powercable and do you know if the PSU and the MB got damaged after my mistake?

Solution
Typically you want good lighting and to get in real close, power removed of course. but you can inspect it for any burn marks, bubbles, discoloration, any transistors may of popped. The wires are most likely fine, chances are the drives took the hit and possibly didn't hurt anything else.

What I would do is hook up everything after careful inspections and you can still boot the PC it wont load but you can verify BIOS, if you get that far you should be fine still.
I would imagine you can use the same cable if nothing bad happened to the cable, no melting or anything. its hard to know if the MB or PSU was damaged however.

The PSU might be OK still, the motherboard maybe OK too, the power was wrong from the PSU to the drives, the drives prob absorbed the pop from that, but if the sata wire was from the drives to the board, possible something may of happened, you will want to inspect the sata ports on the board, if they got zapped then may not be good news.

Hello, thanks for your answer :)
What do you mean if the Sata wire to the board? Do you then mean the Sata data transfer cable (sata 6gb/s)
How can I check if they got zapped?

Thanks for replying fast :)
If the Sata connectors are popped , can I use the other Sata connectors, as I have 3 Sata connectors extra that has never been used

Damn, i will hope the ports are good, when I check tomorrow (it's night time now), as the MB is very expensive. Should I also replace the data (transfer Sata 6gb/s) as well ?

It wouldn't hurt to they are inexpensive. they could be fine if they aren't melted or any visible damage, but why take the risk I suppose.

If the MB is questionable and under warranty wouldn't hurt to request a RMA
