:bounce::bounce::bounce:I need some help in obtaining drivers and other information pertaining how to obtain my goal. All that I have is the Windows 7 Disk. I also want to know if Microsoft still allow the Windows Updates for Windows 7; and if not, how could I get them if that is possible? I also need drivers to accommodate Windows 7; could they still be around. I know this is a tall order for one who does not like Windows 10; I also do not like Microsoft forcing down ones throat Build 1703. I am so not looking forward to Microsoft putting out in the not too distant future another version of Window.

My laptop is a decent spec. would it be able to take oldish software; I do not know?

Any help that one could give me would be most appreciated. Hoping to hear from you soon.

Likely, windows 10 would be better than 8.1; they look the same. Probably not worth doing.
You can get some of the old windows look by installing a free app like windows classic shell.

I have three issues with windows 10.

1. Ugly interface. windows classic shell fixes most of that.

2. Updates forced upon you whenever windows decides. This can be inconvenient. Before any forced update, I take a system checkpoint before so I can recover if the update screws things up. Unfortunately, that seems to be a not rare occurrence.
You can opt to upgrade to windows 10 pro which will give you the option of deferring feature updates for much longer.

3. High levels of instrumentation and data collection.
There are about 10 settings you...
Go to your laptop support web site and look for downloads.
Most likely, you will see some for windows 7.
Download them to a usb stick.
Do a clean install using the windows 7 dvd you have.
This might be a good time to replace the hard drive with a ssd.
In case you have an issue, the hard drive you removed is your safety backup.
You may have an issue reactivating. You might have to buy a new license.

Your only compatibility issue might be with old programs that required a 32 bit os to run.

Windows 7 will get security updates until Feb 2020.
It will not get function updates.

I do have two sshd. I have gone to Acer Web Site to have a look. No; they do not go back that far. I get the feeling that this is going to be more trouble than its worth. I have a 64bit operating system. Have you used 8.1 I did not mind that one. If i really had a choice; i would go back to XP. What is your opinion?

you can minimize tracking with spybot anti beacon. Also applies to windows 7 which has also implemented tracking:

I hate windows 10 also. I am a security expert and have had no problems with my system security and privacy. You can still get the updates for Windows 7 SP1 from Microsoft. However, when you do you MUST download them using Internet Explorer. No other browser will work. Avoid using MS Updates. It's a good idea to close that off in Windows Services. Plan ahead. Backup all important files before you download and install the updates.

Before you get started, you have some reading and decisions to make:

https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/windows-7-refuse-to-upgrade/

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-update/windows-7-update-problems-read-this-first/28147a5f-b0b0-480b-bed9-834a2da7a375

And, this link leads to Microsoft's Update Downloads for Windows 7 (and don't skip the foregoing):

Let us know how it goes or if you have more questions.
