You had to know it was only a matter of time. With the increasing popularity of AMD's new Athlon 64 line of processors, users were clamoring for a cooling solution with the capacity to handle one of these beasts in an overclocked state. Thermalright has answered the call with their new SLK-948U, the latest in the excellent-performing SLK line. Today we're going to take a look at one and see if it performs up to the level of its older siblings.

You might wonder why Thermalright changed their design, and the answer is that they changed it to address an issue that most people who've used a heatsink like this have encountered - many times, attempting to remove the heatsink results in the standoffs unscrewing from the board rather than the heatsink unscrewing from the standoffs. Thermalright's new design eliminates this problem altogether, and that alone makes it worth a few extra steps during initial installation.
Great. Can't ask for anything better. Though they should offer some kind of a solution to those that own the SLK-947U.

I know what everyone's been wondering - 2^33634943-1 IS NOT PRIME. Now, wasn't that worth running Prime95 for a month to know?
