Question Rewiring a bad mouse

Hello
I am trying to rewire an optic mouse but can't figure out which wire goes where. On the new USB cable there are black-green-white-red wires but on the 4 pins attached to the mouse's circuit board there are YELLOW-green-white -red. I have searched on line for hours and can not figure out YELLOW corresponds to which one. It is not replacing the missing black. I did a lot of trial and errors but nothing worked. Either the red light flashes and nothing works or red light stays on and nothing works. Either way the mouse does not work and I get a message saying devise has problems (from Windows7).
2 questions:
1. What is the yellow wire ?
2. How can I check the pins on circuit board which pin should do what?

Thanks in advance

Thanks for your quick reply. The reason for the question was that I need to find out what that yellow wire is supposed to be (Data+/Data-/5V/Ground) so to match it with the right wire of the new USB cable. Any idea how to do this?
