Question Rgb header for motherboard

My motherboard states the maximum power rating for an rgb strip is 3a12v. I have an extra strip of 6a12v I was thinking of using. Hadn’t realize it was a 6a until I did some research because I wanted to be safe. I hooked it up and at works fine and responds to Corsair icue but would it be safe for long periods? Probably a stupid question but just want to be safe.

I would exercise some caution here, the strip is going to be drawing more power than the MB wants to give... many "power supplies" don't like to be drawn higher than the rated supply.

If the 6a12V LED strip is still the length as received, cut it in half. Then you have 3 amps.

it was actually extra from a 16ft strip. It’s now about a foot and a half. Is that really how that works lol?
